diet rich in fruits and vegetables

Prebiotics are the form of oligosaccharides, meaning a small sugar molecule compare to starch which is a polysaccharide - large sugar molecule.

Prebiotics are functional food and good for bacteria to nourish their growth. Chicory root is considered the richest natural source of prebiotic. Other sources of prebiotics are

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Milk
  • Yogurts
  • Honey and tubers.

I'm assuming since most of us in a given day either consume fruits, vegetables or tubers. I do not see there is a special need to buy prebiotic. Prebiotic is essentially a marketing gimmick and as a medical professional I consider it to be  my duty to inform my patients and public.  

As a gastroenterologist I recommend my patients to take the best probiotic - Simply Biotic (contains acidophilus, lactobacillus and bifidobcaterium bacterial strains) for GI issues (cramps, gas, bloating, diarrhea, IBS) along with a fruit in the morning which is rich in prebiotic.
